Dan Farris

Farris Family History

After receiving my genealogical DNA results and being identified as belonging to haplogroup R1b, I placed an inquiry on a genealogical forum board and was promptly advised that I needed to make corrections to my lineage because Ian Esom Farris was I1a rather than R1b. The person stated that Ian Esom Farris was his ancestor because he had a paper trail of documentation leading back to James Esom Farris, Jr. who claimed that Ian Esom Farris was his grandfather although there is no genetic proof or certifiable documented link connecting James Esom Farris, Jr. to Ian Esom Farris.

There are stories that this information was engraved on a piece of leather by James Jr which was later discarded when the frame was used for a shadowbox. No proof, how convenient. Another story says the information could have been written in a family Bible which was lost in a fire. Again, no proof. There are dozens of explainations how and why James Jr could be part of a family and unknowingly not a genetic decendant. I've taken measures to separate my family from the I1a "Vikings", but I'm sure that somewhere, that Farris branch is still assimilated into my family through marriage... perhaps even through the Shelton clan.
